T. S. BABAH Jewelry

T. S. BABAH produces fine hand carved fossil ivory figurines and hand carved water buffalo bone jewelry. They make these carvings and pendants in Indonesia. Their Fossil ivory pendants and carvings are made from Fossil Walrus tusk and Wooley Mammoth tusk. These materials are thousands of years old, dug from the ground and no animal was killed to make these treasures. Their Fossil ivory material comes from Alaska and Canada and they comply with US Fish & Wildlife regulations. The Bone jewelry is made from water buffalo bone which comes from Indonesia. The carvings and jewelry cover a range of themes. Wildlife motifs, dragons, mermaids and many new age totemic designs. All of their pendant bales are sterling silver and they use sterling silver for the settings of their bone face pendants and pins.

It's May!

I cannot believe it's May already.The weather is getting warmer and everything is green. At this time of year of love doing my beading and wire wrapping outdoors. Working outdoors brings me so much inspiration, the birds, flowers, plants and insects can get your imagination going. The fresh air is good for us as well as some sunlight. And if you have small children to contend with, a trip to the park is just what is needed for them and you. My children are 12 & 7 and when at the park they can play for hours at a time while I am making jewelry. Spring and Summer bring so many colors out in natural and in jewelry as well. I try to incororate some of these colors found in nature in my designs. One of newest Tree of Life pendants was done in Garnet, Peridot and Oxidized Copper. Oxidized Copper is an affordable meadium that looks great anytime of the year. I use Copper in most of my designs. You can find an assortment of Copper and NuGold(brass)in both our shops on Etsy and Artfire.

What is your favorite Gemstone?

I have many, but I use good quality glass beads as well. Glass beads come in many assortments from faceted to chunky to smooth. Infact I prefer to use Faceted glass briolette to teach because of cost and some gemstones are just very fragile. I found that I enjoy the look of faceted glass in my designs. What about you? As a bead shop we try to have a large varity of all jewelry design supplies and have been working hard to grow our glass section. Our team runs a shop on Etsy called HOST which stands for Helping Others Street Team. We sell donated items in our shop. Items come from members and some random shops on Etsy that wish to donate to help someone. We have helped by doing needs threads in the forums. Usually these needs threads are during the holiday season. At times we have arranged used clothing to be shipped to someone in need. Our shop proceeds go towards helping with shipping items that have been donated. We have contributed towards sellers shop fees that they were not able to pay. this was to help them remain open and make a small supplement to their income by having an Etsy shop. We have supplied ink for printers. Sometimes life just gets in the way and someone just needs a small boost to keep them going, be it emotional, or financial. We do not make it publicly known that we help out financially, it is done by votes with the members when we find someone needs something.
We are a small team and have also sent out Food Gift cards to some of the shops on Etsy in their time of need.
We would love to become a larger team and this is the goal we are going to strive towards this coming year.

Black Opal Triplets

Similar to a doublet, but has three pieces sandwiched together, with a thin piece of precious opal cemented to a backing and a clear quartz cap placed on top to protect and bring out the colour of the opal.

Triplets are cut with very thin wire blade. This cutting machine had metal block about 4 inches long with hundred odd fine cutting wires, extremely thin. Thinner than piece paper it will cut opal into thin slices. A one ounce block of opal may only cut 50 large opals say 18x13mm. The opal slice is then glued onto black base, so the black colour base really enhances the thin slice opal. The cutter then glues opal cabs, either quartz or acrylic.

Triplets are good to see strong fire colour for reasonable price. We recommend not to wear triplets in shower or washing up as water does sometimes seep in to glue joint and you will loose some fire colours. But I have seen ladies with 20 year old triplet rings that they have worn everyday and still look good. Sometimes after few years just quick polish on top of cab brings up good fire colour also. Opal triplets are good start to the enjoyment of opals.
